What It’s Like To Be A Digital Nomad
I know many of you have been following my journey as I’ve traveled around the world.
I am frequently asked…how do you do it?
How do you become a digital nomad?
How do you master a skill like Excel?
How do you start working for yourself?
I have to be honest. I often don’t know how to answer.
That’s because I make it seem like I always understand the journey I’m on.
So if I can tell you anything, it’s this.
It’s not about how you get started. Rather, it’s about mindset - your ability to accept and tolerate mistakes.
People fail not because of a sheer lack of competence, but because they gave up too early. Yes, when you start out, you will be (and perhaps feel) “incompetent”—but this is normal.
We often think we are farther ahead than we really are. And when we falter, we have this idea that we aren’t good enough. But these are important moments of humility. I would rather fail and realize the starting place was earlier because that at least gives me a starting point to learn from.
In other words, if you want to get started, work on yourself first.
If you want to be a digital nomad, reduce your travel anxiety. Learn to enjoy when your plans collapse in front of your eyes.
Be ok with failure. Learn to love it. Deliver Excel and data content without being a master.
Stop waiting for the perfect idea or moment to work for yourself. Just do it anyway.
The only true shortcut is putting in time and effort. You will get so much farther than you imagine if you…
Just.
Keep.
Going.
